The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) warned that the heat index may exceed 40°C on Friday in some parts of the country.
According to PAGASA, the heat index is expected to reach between 36°C and 40°C in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao, Caraga and Davao Region.
In a statement released Thursday night, PAGASA advised the public to take precautionary measures against the extreme heat. These include wearing light-colored clothing, drinking plenty of water, avoiding strenuous activities during mid-day and using umbrellas or hats when going outdoors.
PAGASA also noted that the heat index will be higher than the actual air temperature due to high humidity levels. It also reminded the public to always check for updates on the weather condition.
