Philippine Government Launches Nationwide Campaign to Tackle Climate Change

The Philippine government is taking steps to ensure that the country can cope with the effects of climate change. According to the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), the Philippines has been identified as one of the countries most vulnerable to the impacts of climate change.

In response, DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu has announced the launch of a nationwide campaign to raise awareness on the importance of mitigating and adapting to climate change. The campaign is part of the government's efforts to implement its National Climate Change Action Plan (NCCAP).

The NCCAP was developed by the DENR in collaboration with other government agencies, local government units, civil society organizations, and private sector groups. It aims to strengthen the country's capacity to respond to climate change through various strategies such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, improving disaster risk reduction and management, and promoting sustainable development.

According to Cimatu, the campaign will involve activities such as public lectures, seminars, and workshops that will be conducted in different parts of the country. He added that these activities will help build public understanding and support for climate change mitigation and adaptation initiatives.

Cimatu also noted that the campaign will serve as an opportunity for stakeholders to share their experiences in addressing climate change issues. He said that this will help create a better understanding of how different sectors can work together towards achieving a common goal – a resilient Philippines that is prepared for any eventuality brought about by climate change.

The Philippine government hopes that through this campaign, more Filipinos will become aware of the need to act on climate change and take steps towards building a more sustainable future.
