Covid pandemic remains volatile, warns WHO

The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that the Covid-19 pandemic is still volatile and unpredictable, with the virus continuing to spread rapidly in many parts of the world. The WHO's Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said during a press conference on Tuesday that the pandemic is far from over, and that countries must remain vigilant and take all necessary measures to prevent the virus from spreading further.

Ghebreyesus noted that while some countries have made progress in containing the virus, others are seeing a rapid increase in cases. He said that the situation remains fragile and could easily spiral out of control if countries do not take action now. He urged governments to focus on strengthening their public health systems and implementing measures such as physical distancing, mask wearing, hand hygiene, and contact tracing.

The WHO chief also warned against complacency, noting that the virus can quickly spread if people become lax in following preventive measures. He urged everyone to remain vigilant and adhere to public health guidelines. He also stressed the importance of testing, saying it is essential for identifying cases and preventing transmission.

Ghebreyesus noted that while vaccines are being rolled out around the world, it will take time before they have an impact on reducing transmission. He said that until then, countries must continue to take strong action to contain the virus. He urged governments to invest in public health systems so they can respond quickly and effectively when outbreaks occur.

The WHO chief also warned against politicizing the pandemic, saying this only serves to weaken efforts to contain it. He said that governments should work together to ensure an effective response and put people first. He emphasized that no one is safe until everyone is safe. 

Ghebreyesus concluded by urging countries to stay united and support each other during this difficult time. He said that only by working together can we hope to bring an end to this pandemic and save lives.
