Two Filipino athletes have conquered a rain-soaked IRONMAN 70.3 race in Subic Bay, Philippines. Nikko Alcala and Kim Mangrobang Santiago braved the challenging conditions to come out on top of the competition.
Alcala finished first with a time of 4 hours, 33 minutes, and 37 seconds while Santiago followed closely behind with a time of 4 hours, 34 minutes, and 13 seconds. The two athletes were part of a field of over 2,000 competitors from all over the world who participated in the event.
The IRONMAN 70.3 race is an endurance event that consists of a 1.9 km swim, 90 km bike ride, and 21 km run. It is considered one of the most difficult races in the world and requires extreme physical and mental strength from its participants.
Despite the heavy rains that plagued the area during the race, Alcala and Santiago managed to stay focused and complete the course. They both expressed their joy at being able to represent the Philippines in such a prestigious event.
The victory was especially sweet for Alcala as he had previously competed in the same race back in 2016 but unfortunately did not finish due to an injury. This time around however, he was able to overcome all obstacles and come out victorious.
The success of Alcala and Santiago has been celebrated by many Filipinos who are proud of their accomplishments. The two athletes have set an example for aspiring triathletes everywhere and shown what can be achieved with hard work and dedication.
