The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) has seen a surge in enrollment from Filipinos eager to acquire new skills. The agency is offering free online courses for those who wish to learn a new trade or upgrade their existing skillset.
TESDA Director General Isidro S. Lapeña said that the agency is seeing an increase in enrollees due to the current pandemic and the need for people to have additional sources of income. He added that there are now over 1 million enrollees in their online courses, with more signing up each day.
Lapeña also noted that the agency has recently launched a new program called “TESDA Online Program” which offers free access to hundreds of courses. These courses range from basic computer literacy, web development, and graphic design, to more specialized courses such as welding, plumbing, and electrical installation.
The agency has also partnered with various organizations to provide additional support for those who wish to pursue a career in a technical field. These include the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which provides job placement assistance; and the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), which offers scholarships and other forms of financial aid for students enrolled in TESDA-accredited institutions.
Aside from providing free online courses, TESDA also offers short-term training programs for those who want to gain hands-on experience in specific trades. These programs are conducted in partnership with local government units, private companies, and NGOs.
The agency is also working with various industry partners to create job opportunities for graduates of its programs. This includes the creation of apprenticeship programs where graduates can gain valuable work experience while earning an income.
With its wide range of services and programs, TESDA is helping Filipinos acquire the skills they need to succeed in today’s competitive job market. By providing access to quality education and training, it is empowering individuals to become self-sufficient and contribute positively to society.
