Filipino tennis prodigy Alex Eala has ended her skid and won the women's singles title at the ITF Junior Masters in Spain. The 15-year-old Eala, who is currently ranked No. 2 in the world among juniors, defeated top seed Emma Navarro of the United States 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 in a thrilling three-set match to take home the crown.

Eala’s win marks her first professional tournament victory since she won the French Open girls’ doubles title last October 2019 with partner Priska Madelyn Nugroho from Indonesia. She had previously reached the final of the 2020 Australian Open junior event but was unable to close out the match due to injury.

The young Filipina’s victory also comes after she had been struggling with an ankle injury that kept her off the court for several months. Despite this, Eala persevered and managed to find her form just in time for the tournament in Spain.

In a statement released by Eala following her win, she said “I am so happy to have won my first professional tournament since 2019! It was a long road back from injury but I am so proud of myself for being able to overcome it and come out on top.”

Eala’s win is a huge boost for Philippine tennis as she continues to be one of the brightest stars in the sport. With her latest victory, she has proven that she is still one of the best junior players in the world and can compete with the best of them despite any adversity she may face.
