The Phoenix Suns have acquired All-Star guard Bradley Beal from the Washington Wizards in a trade that sends Chris Paul to the Wizards, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski and Zach Lowe. The deal was agreed upon on Wednesday night and marks a major shift in the balance of power in the Western Conference.
Beal, 28, is a two-time All-Star and one of the most dynamic scorers in the NBA. He averaged 30.5 points per game last season, good for second in the league behind only James Harden. He also averaged 6.1 assists and 4.2 rebounds per game while shooting 45.5 percent from the field and 35.3 percent from 3-point range.
The addition of Beal gives the Suns an elite scoring option to pair with Devin Booker, who averaged 25.6 points per game last season. With Deandre Ayton anchoring the paint, Phoenix now has a formidable starting lineup that should be able to compete with any team in the West.
Paul, meanwhile, will join a young core in Washington that includes Russell Westbrook, Rui Hachimura and Deni Avdija. While he may not be able to lead them to immediate success, his veteran leadership could prove invaluable as they look to build for the future.
This trade marks a major shift in the balance of power in the Western Conference and solidifies the Suns as one of the top contenders for this upcoming season. With their new core of Beal, Booker and Ayton, Phoenix looks poised to make some noise come playoff time.
